GIFTED AND TALENTED Please be sure that you send an email to llynch1113@earthlink.com with the name of this class in the subject line and your name in the body of the email. I will set up a distribution list to use just in case something interesting comes up I think you ought to know about.
"All children have a right to an education that
acknowledges and respects their individuality and that offers them
maximum opportunities to develop their strengths and abilities. Gifted
and talented children will flourish in a society that acknowledges and
respects individual difference and recognizes and celebrates the
abilities of its most able."
"A rising tide lifts all ships."
We are going to do things that we think are amusing and which make being smart more fun. This course will be similar to Psychology II but geared more toward life-long experiences. We will not be subversive!

TOPICS Developing your talents Developing your giftedness
RESOURCES Books to consider: We need to read at least one book in the course of this class. What do you suggest? It should be something about a gifted kid so that it applies to what we are doing. I was thinking The Catcher in the Rye. It is a classic and everybody should read it. What other books come to mind? Peter Pan Water for Elephants Murder on the Orient Express Lord of the Flies (don't roll your eyes) American Shaolin Three Cups of Tea

ASSIGNMENTS FACT SHEETS FROM THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF PSYCHIATRISTS I have selected a group of "fact sheets" from The Royal College of Psychiatrists for you to read. You will notice that there is a case study at the top of each page. All of these problems affect not only the child but the adult he then becomes. Read the following and be prepared to discuss the topics, please. CHILDREN OF PARENTS WITH MENTAL ILLNESSES
